Youth Exchange
Where the Realm Comes to Life
The Youth Exchange is the main activity of Bergolo Medievale. For nine days, 30 young people and their group leaders gather in Bergolo to live inside a medieval-inspired scenario and explore topics such as democracy, inclusion, sustainability, cultural heritage, and digital well-being through non-formal education.
The scenario prepared during the Preparatory Visit is put into action, shaped daily by the participants themselves.
Participant Responsibilities
During the Youth Exchange participants are expected to:
• Engage actively in the LARP and workshops
• Contribute to daily reflection processes
• Respect the digital detox period
• Participate in communal tasks
• Collaborate in organising the Medieval Fair
• Respect local community and shared spaces
After the Youth Exchange participants are expected to:
• Organise a local follow-up or dissemination activity in their own country
• Share their learning through personal networks or social media
• Take part in an evaluation surveys and meeting
• Complete Youthpass reflection
Who WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Each consists of 1 group leader and 4 participants
Selection criteria for participants:
• Between 18 and 25 years old / 18 and 35 years old for group leader
• Be interested in Medieval theme and willing to experience LARP
• Demonstrate proactive and responsible attitude in their application
• Have good English communication skills
• Half of the spots is reserved for people facing fewer opportunities (social, geographical or economical obstacles)
N.B! The experience is co-created. The schedule exists, but the energy and depth depend on the participants.

Arrival day
Participants arrive at the venue and settle in the hostel. Introduction to basic house rules and safety procedures
The Gathering
Introduction to the programme, practical information, and entry into the LARP. Kins define their internal structure and identity.
The Founding of the Realm
Creation of the political and social system. Participants define rights, responsibilities, and governance structures through parliamentary simulation.
The Exchange of Histories
Intercultural exchange. Historical exploration, shared roots, cultural presentations aligned with the LARP scenario. Digital detox begins.
The Craft of Hands
Handcrafts. Creation of objects inspired by medieval techniques and reflection on labour, skills, and social roles.
The Stewardship of the Land
Sustainability practices. Resource management, trade negotiations, permaculture introduction, garden work, and sustainable cooking.
The Medieval Fair
Preparation and implementation of the Medieval Fair. Participants manage workshops, logistics, food, and interaction with the local community.
The Laying Down of Roles
Closing of the LARP. Digital reconnection, de-role ceremony, written character letters, and recognition of individual contributions.
The Harvest of Learning
Follow-up planning, dissemination preparation, final evaluation, and closure.
Departure
Participants leave the venue with the bus early morning.
What You Must Know
As part of the Youth Exchange, participants will take part in agreed periods of digital detox, during which personal devices such as mobile phones will be set aside.
By joining the programme, participants agree to approach this digital silence with openness and responsibility, understanding that stepping away from constant connection allows space for deeper reflection and community building.
